Water Dispenser Buying Guide for Homes and Offices

A water dispenser gives instant cold water in summer and hot water for tea and green tea in winter. Here is what to look for.

Number of taps

Two-tap models offer hot and cold. Three-tap models add normal-temperature water — useful for medicines, children and anyone who avoids very cold water.

Cabinet or refrigerator?

The space under the taps can be a simple storage cabinet or a small refrigerator compartment for drinks and fruit. A refrigerator dispenser is handy in offices and small flats.

Safety first

  • Child-safety lock on the hot tap — essential in homes with children.
  • Separate switches for heating and cooling so you can turn off what you don't need.
  • Stable base that doesn't tip over when the bottle is changed.

Energy tips

Turn off the heating switch in summer and the cooling switch in winter, and switch the dispenser off at night or when the office is closed.

Keep it hygienic

  1. Clean the bottle area and taps every time you change the bottle.
  2. Drain and sanitise the reservoirs every few months, following the manual.
  3. Use bottles from a trusted supplier and keep them out of sunlight.
