AC tonnage calculator

How AC tonnage works

One "ton" of air conditioning removes 12,000 BTU of heat per hour. A room's heat load depends mostly on floor area, but in Pakistan direct sun on walls and a hot roof above can add a lot more. An undersized AC runs flat-out all day and never quite cools the room; an oversized non-inverter AC switches on and off constantly. Inverter ACs handle a small oversize gracefully because they slow down once the room is cool.

  • 1 ton — rooms up to about 120 sq ft (e.g. 10×12)
  • 1.5 ton — rooms up to about 180 sq ft (e.g. 12×15)
  • 2 ton — rooms up to about 250 sq ft (e.g. 14×18)
